Serving others

“These essential works of charity and justice with respect to the poor are evident at The Old Meeting House, and are crucial to why I am an OMH member. The OMH is not a large faith community, but in my lifetime of belonging to various Christian congregations OMH is the one to me that has strived most faithfully and compassionately in performing the essential works of charity and justice to the poor. The heart of Christianity is at work.”

who we are

Missions is a key part of the OMH and foundational to our understanding of what it means to be a church. At the very least we are committed to tithing our resources to our various mission ministries. In reality, our contributions far exceed this percentage and we remain enormously grateful for the generosity of our community.

The Missions Committee of the Old Meeting House has the privilege and charge of carrying our church’s work into our local community and the wider world. We support organizations that address urgent needs such as food, healthcare and homelessness. To this end, we give to over 25 local relief organizations and we also support the United Church of Christ’s mission endeavors, specifically “Our Church’s Wider Mission” and “One Great Hour of Sharing.” For more information on these and other ministries of the UCC, please visit: http://www.ucc.org/

The OMH supports a teacher at the Kalesiruia School in the Mbirikani Group Ranch in Southeastern Kenya. Our contribution goes to The Maasailand Preservation Trust, a trust that is dedicated to helping the Maasai preserve their traditions, conserve wildlife and their environment, as well as providing education and healthcare as they become active participants in their inevitably changing futures. http://www.richardbonhamsafaris.com/maasailand-preservation-trust.htm

We also seek to help raise the profile of the organizations to which we give as a means of encouraging others to support these organizations and inspire social consciousness throughout our extended community. This is done primarily through fundraising concerts, community gatherings and educational forums.

caring for each other

“About 4 days after [Ben] was born, the first home cooked meal showed up at our doorstep [...] then the 2nd and 3rd; the 5th, 8th the 12th. [...]
For me, this is the most glorious way that God does what He does. When you least expect it, and really need it...
It reminded me of how grateful I am for [...] all the people who have made this place what it is; over years; with small and large gifts, commitments; participating, and reaching out to others. Here again, feeling God reach me when it was least expected and most needed.”

circle of care

This is what people think of when they think of The Old Meeting House. Whether it is a meal from the Circle of Care, or a meal from Café, or a visit from one of our Pastors or Congregational Care Ministers, taking care of one another is what we do.
The Circle of Care Committee provides meals, rides, companionship and other forms of support to people in our church community who are in need.
If you would like to speak with someone about participating in the Circle of Care - either to receive or give of services, please contact circleofcare@oldmeetinghouse.org.
