Adult Education

An Old Meeting House Book Group meets twice monthly. Throughout the year, Bible Studies and Adult Study Programs are offered which address a variety of topics from a Christian perspective. In addition, several small groups meet throughout the year to focus on particular interests.

Lenten Study Opportunities:

During the Season of Lent (the 6 weeks before Easter - traditionally a time of quiet and contemplation) we will be offering two different educational opportunities.

On Wednesdays - March 7, March 21, and April 4, Spiritual Life is hosting "Dinner and a Movie". We will gather for a potluck meal at 5:30 pm in the Parish House. We will be watching and discussing short videos on some major topics in the Christian Faith. The videos are produced by The Salt Project - a not-for-profit project dedicated to reclaiming and sharing the beauty of Christian life through film, photography, music, poetry, and ideas. Information on the videos can be found by going to this website: http://www.saltproject.org/film/. Because this format does require a general idea of headcount for meals, we ask that you RSVP if possible to RevEJohnk@oldmeetinghouse.org. Attendance is not required at all three gatherings, but encouraged.

In addition, every Sunday morning throughout Lent, Elissa will host a Bible study from 8:30-9:15. The group will meet in the Blue Room (on the left as you enter the Parish House) and will discuss that week's scriptures from the gospel of Mark. We will use N.T. Wright's book, The Gospel of Mark for Everyone, as our guide. Absolutely no prior experience is required, and you may feel free to attend whenever you are able - no RSVP is required.

Book Groups:

Have you wondered what Christianity has to say to the "thinking person"?
Do you wonder what the stuff we learn in school has to do with everyday life?
Do you struggle with your faith?

Do you like evenings of fellowship and fun?
Do you simply need a night out and like to read?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then the OMH Book Group is for YOU!
We hope you will come join us!
ANY and ALL are welcome – new members, old members, visitors and guests! All we ask is that you make an effort to read the book (and RSVP for the evening sessions).

The OMH book group meets monthly, reading selections chosen by participants from a variety of genres. Due to its popularity, a second meeting of the book group will begin to meet on Wednesday, March 7, after the Parish House Cafe. They will be reading Take this Bread by Sara Miles. If you have an extra copy of this book to lend, please email revejohnk@oldmeetinghouse.org.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 21st, at 7:30 pm. Katie Gustafson is this month's host. We will be reading Here if you need me . Books are available for order at Bear Pond Books. To RSVP (even with a maybe), email admin@oldmeetinghouse.org.
